Aaah.. Valentine's Day!

Here comes the most dreadful "holiday" of the year..

"Valentine's day"..

The most commercial day of the year..

It's all about people wearing red, giving each other gifts (preferrably red roses), and celebrating their "love"..

wait, hold on.. let me correct that..

it's not people, it's COUPLED-UP people..

so basically, if u r single.. this "holiday" is not for u..

but if u think that this means that u get to be free of the headache that usually accompanies all such events, then u r wrong!!

you will be looked upon by the eye of ridicule, and asked by all those coupled-up people about "ur plans" and "who ur valentine is".. (!!).. AS IF having "a date" signifies that u r loved.. not only that, but that u deserve to be loved.. like ur not a little mean person inside..

What if "my love" or whatever was out of town for that day? does this mean that i'm not loved?

How about if i looked really ugly in red.. does this make me "not festive"?

I've never "celebrated" valentine's day with anyone before..

wait, let me rephrase that; i've never celebrated valentine's day with a guy before..
The one i remember the most, is the one i "celebrated" with a whole lot of my friends when i was 15.. we all went out to dinner, and we were a HUGE group..
and the most special, was the one where my close girlfriends and i went to dinner, remember u guys? ;)

so in conclusion

Valentine's day sucks..

they're ripping u off guys!!

Surgery, anyone?

I’ve been doing the surgical rotation for a while now.. and the least I could say about it is that it’s interesting..
I think at the beginning I was supposed to hate them, coz I have to wake up at 6-something, in order to be at the hospital by 7.30 or 8 am (at the latest). We don’t officially finish till the 3 or 4 pm (unless we get the senior’s permission(.. I barely sleep coz I’m up doing the most random things till 1 or even 2 am..

But still..

I guess I like it..

I listen to what my seniors say..

I’m the last one to leave the clinic..

I’m one of the very few who respect the “sterile field” (all the green stuff in the operating room which you’re not allowed to touch unless you’re wearing the green stuff)..

And the one who has a “special place” in the operating room from which I watch the doctor work..

And the last to leave the Operating Room..

I’m the girl who sits at the front and answers most of the questions asked by the professor..

And the one who asks him a question or two..

And before all that, I took an elective abroad a couple of years ago in Surgery, and used to hang out ALL the time in the OR..

I don’t think it’s disgusting.. even though there’s a lot of less hygienic body parts and bodily fluids..

It’s a bit depressing, coz of all the cancer patients you see; you would think that all the women out there have breast cancer..

It’s a bit out of the routine, coz you don’t usually have long-term relationships with your patients; you “surgeon” them and then they leave, usually for good.

It’s a relief coz half the time the patient is unconscious..
