Germs!!

From Oprah's website: http://www2.oprah.com/health/yourbody/slide/slide_yourbody_embarrassing_111.jhtml

Warning: You may find the following information to be extremely disgusting.

Scientists have found:
- bacteria on the handles of doors, the toilet and the towel dispenser of public restrooms
- drool from three different people on an airplane cushion
- saliva from three people on the inside of a bar glass
- germs usually found in feces in the back of a taxi cab
- B. strep, usually found in vaginal secretions, on a movie theater seat. They say it was probably from a woman wearing a short skirt.
- dangerous E. coli bacteria, most likely from fecal matter, on a pair of public headphones

Solution? WASH YOUR HANDS ALL THE TIME!! (i don't believe in the antibacterial gel stuff. Sure, it'sbetter than nothing, but nothing beats antibacterial soap and water!!)

There are 10 times more bacterial cells than human cells in the human body, with large numbers of bacteria on the skin and in the digestive tract. The vast majority of these bacteria are harmless or beneficial, a few pathogenic bacteria cause infectious diseases. wiki

Bacteria, often Lactobacillus, is used in cheese, pickles, soy sauce, sauerkraut, vinegar, yogurt.

All from wikipedia. :D

Hi,
I really like reading your blog :)
I worked with Unilever company handling their antibacterial soap: Lifebuoy. I read a lot about antibacterial product and the conclusion i got is:
- Antibacterial products kills 99.6% of germs while regular soap kills 99.4% of germs!!!!
- If a person uses antibacterial products for a long time, antibac might not be useful anymore as the bacteria became amune!!
- antibacterial products kill the weakest 99.6% germs every time.. so after a while you are left with the strongest bacterias ever which might increase the chances of getting infection!!
So.. In Conclusion: as you said .. Use regular soap and water :)

dp: LOOL.. true!

anon: harmless bacteria (also called commensals, when they live side by side with the human cells) are actually beneficial.. they "fight off" the pathogenic bacteria.. what horrified me about the article is not the fact that it's bacteria.. it's that it's FECAL bacteria!! now, you would be disgusted if u saw some feces on the phone, wouldn't u?.. EWWWWW

p!nk: ok.. keep this is mind next time u get the flu :P

mossaab: thanks and welcome to my blog! :"> it's so cool to learn such things from people "on the inside".. lool.. thanks !
