For the past couple of days, i've been going grocery shopping with mom.. and i noticed that there are soo many people who are buying HUGE amounts of food!.. the trolley(s) are filled to their brim with so many things it's as if they haven't had anything to eat for weeks!.. ofcourse, the "logical" explanation for this, is that the "Season" of ramadan starts next week.. Umm, as far as i know, people FAST in ramadan.. as in, they do not eat from dawn till dusk.. hence, the "consumption time" for food is cut to half, and people will eat less, more healthily and might even lose some weight in the process..
WRONG!
Apparently, most people tend to overeat in Ramadan, leading to quite a weight gain, and even some medical problems on the side. hmm, i think someone lost track of the concept here.
Someone might defend all this food buying by saying, "but there are so many feasts!". well, if some people are cooking for other people, that means the first group will overbuy, and the second will not buy anything.. hence, the total should remain the same!!
you might think i'm getting worked up over nothing, but a quick glance at the streets and malls might further explain why.. the SPAN crashed and is still not working due to the huge overload on it (because Ramadan apparently came as a surprise to the bank people this year or soemthing!).. any errand takes ages coz the streets are overcrowded.. making it the perfect environment for pick-pockets and motorcycle-mobile stealers.. my dad was (almost) a victim of one of those.. a guy on a motorcycle tried to snatch his mobile from his hand while he was talking on it.. thank God my dad was not hurt.. my dad held on to his phone and didn't let the guy flee with it.. and he was regretting that he didn't push the guy and give him a decent beating.. all this while no one around even gave him a second glance.. like it was the most normal thing in the world..
I have a question; what does ramadan mean to people? coz everybody seems to complain that they have school/college/work during Ramdan.. That it's just "too difficult" to wake up in the morning, even though we have shorter school/work days during this holy month.. then, they compensate for their fast by stuffing themselves into a heart attack.. and finally they put down a schedule for which tv program they will watch on which channel.. so that they would be sure that they don't miss a thing..
I am not saying that i have the best plans for this holy month, but at least, i try to keep away from these obvious pitfalls.. i hope you do too :) Happy Ramadan everyone!

Mabrook il laptop! The most important thing is to 'enable' the wireless connection :P
Anyway, I agree, people tend to use Ramadan in order to slack off and become lazy couch potatoes! Honestly, I on the other hand will attempt to continue losing weight this Ramadan by eating light and minimizing Carbs (It won't be easy), as well as playing sports continually... Good luck to the rest!!
P.S. My working hours in Ramadan are 9.30 to 4.30! Hardly the lazy minimal workload if u ask me!!!
first of all, mabroooooook 3la alaptop! "yes i read the post upside down :P"
me too i don't understand the obsession with food this month! every family is pushing 2 and 3 shopping carts to the checking counter! it's unbelievable! i think to myself.. but you're gonna die from overeating! .. oh well.. let the ppl have their fun and complain of how "hard it is to work" in ramadan the next day simply because their bellies are filed with last nights poor vicimts of the animal kingdom and what not!
lol ok i got wokred up over it too myself! i tend to every ramadan!
to me it doesn't make much of a difference because usually i have breakfast at 6 and lunch at 5 so i can push them around one hour and i'd be fasting ;)
slamat your dad wallah.. al7amdillah nothing happened
I used to go the supermarket twice a week..first becoz i need to shop..second, becoz i usually monitor some brands..
in the past 2 weeks..it was impossible for me to do that due to the heavy traffic and stuff..wallah its really bad :S
last year we were supposed to work from 10:30 till 4:30, however, we ALWAYS stayed till maghreb lol
kol sana wento 6ayyebeen..ana mabrook for the laptop :p
personally i LOVE ramadan.. i like how u dont get distracted by having to "eat".. & thanks for bringing this "gain weight" thing up.. bcz I for one lose a LOT of weight in ramadan which i spend months later tring to gain back! so i really dont get it!
-ot-: it's not how long u work.. it's how long u stay awake at work :P
bassem: why would u have breakfast at 6??! at least u have breakfast.. thanks. alah ysallimk :)
ahmed: 3laeina oo 3aleik.. :)
p1nk attitude: as much as i love food.. i must agree that it IS distracting.. :)
First.. congrats for the laptop, what did u get? I just got a new one last week and I am VERY satsified! :D
Second... yeah I noticed that too, why r people overbuying food? Are we heading towards starvation or somethin???
I wana blow up every bank in KSA for the SPAN problems, its REALLY annoying!!
NEW POST ALREADYYYYY!!!
We've just come from Kuwait where all the working hours change for Ramadan whereas they are staying the same for us in Jeddah. I think it's much better to treat Ramadan as any other month and just get on with life. Some people seem to see Ramadan as a chance for a holiday in bed.
